Chemotherapy risks to fertility of childhood cancer survivors

The adverse effects of some cancer treatments on male and female fertility are well established, and have led to the development of a new specialty of medicine, bridging oncology and reproductive medicine.1 The US Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS) has provided benchmark studies reporting the effect of cancer treatment on reproductive outcomes in survivors of childhood cancer.2,3 Recognition of the adverse effects of radiotherapy has led to the development of protocols reducing or eliminating radiotherapy, and there is growing reliance on regimens of chemotherapy alone.
