Age at cancer diagnosis and interpretation of survival statistics

A partir des données de 27 registres européens des cancers sur la période 2000-2007, cette étude analyse l'évolution de la survie relative et globale chez des patients adolescents et jeunes adultes atteints de cancer (âge : 15-39 ans)

The substantial progress in the therapy of several types of cancers occurring at different periods of life have translated to increased survival of patients with cancer. The Article by Annalisa Trama and colleagues1 in this issue of The Lancet Oncology, compared 5-year relative survival of European adolescents and young adults who were diagnosed with cancer with the relative survival of children (0–14 years) and of adults (40–69 years). Trama and colleagues' Article1 showed improved relative survival of children and of adolescents and young adults with cancer diagnosed in 2000–07, which provides re-assurance that most patients with cancer who are younger than 40 years have benefited from therapeutic advances during this period.
