Toripalimab For Extensive-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive malignancy characterized by rapid tumor growth and the early development of distant metastases, with approximately 70% of patients presenting with metastatic or extensive-stage (ES) SCLC. The current standard treatment for ES-SCLC in most parts of the world includes the combination of platinum, etoposide, and an immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI), based on 2 randomized clinical trials, IMPOWER-1331 and CASPIAN,2 that showed improvement in overall survival (OS) from the addition of anti–programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) monoclonal antibodies, atezolizumab, or durvalumab, respectively, to standard first-line chemotherapy.
