Dietary risk factors for esophageal cancer based on World Health Organization (WHO) regions

A partir d'une revue systématique de la littérature publiée entre mars et juillet 2020 (59 études), cette méta-analyse évalue les facteurs de risque associés au cancer de l'oesophage dans les 6 régions définies par l'Organisation Mondiale de la Santé

Esophageal cancer (EC) has become one of the most alarming cancer diseases in the world because of its incidence and mortality rate. As per the Global Cancer Incidence, Mortality and Prevalence (GLOBOCAN) report, it ranked seventh in terms of incidence and sixth in mortality overall in 2020. There is a significant difference in global incidence between regions. For both sexes, Eastern Asia ranks first by region. By countries, Cape Verde in Western Africa has the highest incidence rate for men; and Malawi in Eastern Africa has it for women. EC mortality closely follows the geographical patterns for incidence. The highest mortality rates were found in Eastern Asia among men and women.
