Despite the decline in death rates from breast cancer among women, the incidence of the disease has continued to rise in the US, by 1% a year from 2012 to 2021, according to an American Cancer Society analysis of data from the National Cancer Institute and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.White women younger than 50 years saw a steeper increase in incidence: 1.4% annually vs 0.7% in those aged 50 years or older, in whom breast cancer typically occurs.
