Charting the path forward to combat gastrointestinal cancers
Menée à partir des données "GLOBOCAN", cette étude estime, à l'échelle internationale et pour l'année 2020, le risque de cancer gastro-intestinal et de décès associé
Understanding the cancer landscape across geographical and economic contexts is essential in combatting cancer and is important in addressing disparities that permeate the cancer continuum. The Global Cancer Observatory (GLOBOCAN) released 2020 estimates for cancer incidence and mortality, reporting 19·3 million new cancer cases and 10·0 million related deaths. 1 Of these, gastrointestinal cancers contributed to 27% of the cases and 36% of deaths. 1 In The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Shaoming Wang and colleagues 2 refine GLOBOCAN estimates for gastrointestinal cancers by calculating lifetime risk and mortality across 185 countries, taking into account other causes of death, multiple primary cancers, and varying life expectancies.
